Hubertha arrived at Portland Manor in November 1992 at the age of 18 months. She had been abandoned by her mother in the Kruger National Park after she had been attacked by a hyena, and was then hand-reared by the Pretoria Zoo. Her arrival at Portland made the national press, TV and radio, as she was the first hippo to set foot on Southern Cape soil for 230 years, and she is undoubtedly the superstar of Portland Manor.

You may also be lucky enough to spot some of the indigenous species, which include baboons, bushbuck, bushpig, clawless cape otter, duiker, grysbok, lynx, vervet monkeys or even the elusive and extremely rare mountain leopard.

Portland Manor is situtated approximately 10km off the N2 Highway between Knysna and George. After taking the Rheenendal turnoff simply follow the signs for the Manor.
